Prologue
Anders Hedegaard Petersen, 2026
A strong wool fibre begins with a sheep that has lived well. The quality
of the wool carries the conditions of its making - climate, terrain, care.
From there, the finest fibres are laid close together and spun with precision into a homogeneous, unbroken thread. In this painstaking work,
each fibre binds to the next - and a strength emerges that is greater
than the sum of its parts.
Gabriel has been spun the same way.
The company began its life as Kjærs Mølle in Aalborg in 1851, processing wool into cloth by the power of a river. Much has changed since
- geography, technology, markets, materials - but the founding logic
remains. You take what is fine, you bind it with care, and you create
something that lasts.
Over 175 years, thousands of people have added their individual fibres to the thread. Each employee, each thought, each decision has
become part of a larger whole. Spun together, they form an unbroken
line of competence, courage, change, and community. New fibres are
added continuously - new generations, new technologies, new collaborations - bound into the thread, giving it direction and strength to
continue. Not merely onward, but forward.
This book tells the story of Gabriel through the people who make it
what it is today. Not a history of dates and milestones, but a portrait
of a living organisation: its craft, its conscience, its way of seeing and
making and connecting.
What you will find is not a company that arrived at excellence by accident, but one that has chosen - again and again, generation after
generation - to bind each fibre to the next with patience and precision. The strength you feel in a Gabriel textile is the same strength that
runs through the organisation itself: earned through craft, sustained
through care, and always, quietly, greater than the sum of its parts.
